1956 Museum Quality Piece on Tour by NEWCOMB COLLEGE Instructor Katherine Ricks.
Black thrown vessel with added spout and handle by Katherine ricks. This vessel is from her personal collection, it is made from buff clay, with a black Satin glaze.
Katherine Ricks (1927-2013) Was a resident of Metairie Louisiana.She obtained a bachelor of fine art from to Tuane-Newcomb college in 1949 and a master’s degree from Newcomb college in 1957. She became an instructor at Newcomb College from 1949 and assisted Sadie Irvine who was head of the ceramics department.
Later, Kathleen had her own pottery studio on Maple Street in New Orleans where she also continue to making and selling her own pottery to illustrious art students such as Migon Faget and Luis Comenares

NOTES: Vessel was one of two pieces contributed by Ms. Rcks for the 100 year faculty ceramics retrospective at Newcomb college, in order to be included in this exhibition the faculty member had to have taught to Newcomb for at least four semesters.
A magnificent museum quality piece, probably was one of Ms. Ricks favorite pieces, which is why it was included in the 1994 Newcomb exhibition.
This piece has no cracks no chips only imperfections inherent to natural pottery making!. Obviously one of a kind!……….(‘’127’’ years old’’)…
